National Energy Corporation

Live 3D digital twin of offshore platform with SCADA integration and remote inspection.

Project Overview

National Energy Corporation operates 3 offshore oil and gas platforms in the Persian Gulf, each with over 2,000 monitored equipment assets including pumps, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, and safety-critical systems. Routine inspections required helicopter deployment of inspection crews — each trip costing upwards of USD 15,000 and subject to weather cancellations. Critical equipment health data from SCADA and building management systems was siloed in control rooms on each platform with no unified shore-based visibility.

Cydez created photorealistic 3D digital twins of all 3 platforms using NVIDIA Omniverse for authoring and Three.js for the browser-based viewer. Each platform model contains over 4,000 individually selectable assets, mapped to live SCADA sensor feeds via Node-RED integration middleware. Shore-based operations teams can navigate the 3D twin, click any equipment asset to view real-time readings, historical trends, and maintenance records.

The platform includes virtual inspection walkthrough capabilities — engineers follow predefined inspection routes through the 3D model, checking sensor readings at each waypoint and logging observations. What-if scenario modelling allows maintenance planners to simulate equipment shutdowns and predict cascade effects before scheduling outages.

Scope of Work
  • 3D modelling of 3 offshore platforms with 4,000+ selectable assets each
  • NVIDIA Omniverse authoring pipeline for photorealistic platform twins
  • Live SCADA and BMS integration via Node-RED middleware
  • Virtual inspection walkthrough with waypoint-based checklists
  • What-if scenario modelling for maintenance shutdown planning
  • Shore-based operations dashboard with role-based access control
The Challenge

An offshore oil platform operator needed remote visibility into equipment health, structural integrity, and safety systems across 3 platforms. Physical inspections were costly, weather-dependent, and created HSE risk for inspection personnel.

Our Solution

Cydez created photorealistic 3D digital twins of all 3 platforms using NVIDIA Omniverse, connected to live SCADA and BMS sensor feeds. Shore-based teams monitor equipment health, run what-if maintenance scenarios, and conduct virtual inspection walkthroughs without helicopter deployment.

Our Process

How we delivered this project

01

Asset Survey

Obtained as-built CAD drawings and P&ID diagrams for all 3 platforms. Catalogued 12,000+ equipment assets across platforms and mapped SCADA tag nomenclature. Conducted 2-week on-platform survey of the pilot facility to validate drawings against physical layout.

02

3D Production

Built photorealistic 3D models of all 3 platforms in NVIDIA Omniverse using CAD-to-mesh conversion and manual detailing. Created LOD (Level of Detail) variants for smooth browser performance. Authored inspection walkthrough routes with 120 waypoints per platform.

03

Development & Integration

Developed the Three.js-based browser viewer with React frontend. Built Node-RED integration flows connecting live SCADA and BMS feeds to the 3D twin via WebSocket. Implemented the what-if scenario engine and virtual inspection logging system with InfluxDB time-series storage.

04

Testing & Deployment

Validated SCADA data accuracy against control room displays for 2 weeks. Load-tested the viewer with 4,000 concurrent asset data feeds. Deployed to shore-based operations centre and trained 45 engineers across operations, maintenance, and HSE teams.

Key Features

What we built

Photorealistic Platform Twins

3 offshore platforms rendered at photorealistic quality with 4,000+ individually selectable equipment assets. Navigate freely or follow guided inspection routes through the 3D environment.

Live SCADA Integration

Real-time sensor data from platform SCADA and BMS systems displayed on equipment assets in the 3D twin. Colour-coded health indicators and threshold-based alerting for abnormal readings.

Virtual Inspection Walkthroughs

Predefined inspection routes with 120 waypoints per platform. Engineers check sensor readings, log observations, and flag anomalies without helicopter deployment to the physical platform.

What-If Scenario Modelling

Simulate equipment shutdowns and predict cascade effects on dependent systems. Maintenance planners visualise impact before scheduling outages, reducing unplanned production losses.

Historical Trend Analytics

InfluxDB time-series storage for all sensor data with 2-year rolling retention. Trend charts, anomaly detection, and equipment degradation curves accessible from any asset in the 3D model.

Shore-Based Operations Centre

Unified dashboard for monitoring all 3 platforms from shore. Role-based access for operations, maintenance, and HSE teams with audit-logged observation records.
